Let Them Eat Cake!

I know I’ve been MIA lately–it’s all the wedding planning, I tell you!!!

With Hannah Rose being allergic to milk and egg–she can’t eat any of our wedding cake.  (Our ring-bearer is also allergic to egg).  So I was on the hunt for something they could have that would be yummy–I just haven’t the time to whip up some cupcakes from scratch for them.

Enter Divvies.

They make cupcakes, cookies, popcorn, and candies–all Peanut-Free, Tree Nut Free, Egg Free, and Dairy Free.  They’re out of NY–but ship all over the country.  So we thought we’d give them a try.

We ordered chocolate cupcakes with pink frosting.  (You do know that Hannah Rose is a girlie-girl, yes??)  They arrived in 3 days.  They were well packaged.  They sell their cupcakes a dozen at a time, and they came with a generous sized tub of frosting and sprinkles.

The taste?  Like mine–which is to say they were good.  They’re a bit more crumbly than your normal cupcake, but I noticed the same thing when I started making egg-free cupcakes.

The price?  It’s a bit on the high side for cupcakes–but for some occasions it will definitely be money well spent–like our wedding.  And yeah–we’ll be getting chocolate cupcakes with pink frosting.  Figured why not?  There’s the bride’s cake, the groom’s cake–why can’t we have flower girl (daughter of the groom) cupcakes???

If you don’t want to go the ordering route, and would rather some a few bucks and make the cupcakes yourself–there’s a great cookbook I’d recommend: Vegan Cupcakes Take Over the World.

And Kristine, thanks for the link to Divvies!  You’re a life-saver!!

We Have Cake

Or we will have cake, to be precise.  We met with our baker, Shiela, saturday.  Her website is Sweet Little Shiela’s. We got to sample some very yummy cakes today.

We decided to go with two cakes.  The traditional cake (or bride’s cake) is going to be white cake with lemon filling and buttercream frosting.  It’s sumptuous!  It’ll have 3 layers.  The frosting will be white and on the bottom layer will be shamrocks.  The second layer will have celtic knotwork.  The third layer will have trinity knots!

We’re also have a groom’s cake–we couldn’t resist.  It’s a chocolate cake with bavarian cream filling.  It’s going to look like a can of Guinness.  In fact, I have a pic of what it’s going to look like since she’s already made one before!

As you can see from her website, her work is beautiful and I can attest to how tasty things are!!!  She definitely has a reccomendation from me!!

So that’s one thing more crossed off our list.  Only 50 million to go in just over six months!  We’re hoping to book the reception site this weekend.  (Still no idea where that will be.)  And we’re planning on shopping for/ordering our wedding bands this weekend as well.  It’ll be a busy weekend for us.

Party Prep–UPDATED

Party prep is in full swing in spite of how I’m feeling.  (Not well.  Had to discontinue my antibiotics–side-effects, of course!)  Trying to avoid having to go in to see the doctor this weekend.  Crossing my fingers.

Cake is in the oven and due to come out soon.  While it’s cooling I’ll make the icing, and then decorate it–which is going to take me more than a few minutes.  hahaha.

The house is pretty much in order.  I have to hide the wrapped presents.  There’s more on my to-do list, but I won’t bore you with all the pretty details.

Chris’s parents got Hannah Rose a new dresser and bedside table that match her wonderful bed!  (They are wonderfully generous–his parents!!!)  The pieces are gorgeous!  We’ve got those in place, and I put bows on them since Hannah Rose will see them tonight when she comes home with Daddy.  Charging the camera battery now so I’ll be ready to take lots of pictures tonight and tomorrow.

Back to the grindstone I go!!!  Just thought I’d drop in and say a quick hi! to y’all!!!  Happy Friday, by the way!

UPDATE:  Was going to do a Tinkerbell “head” cake–which would have taken me hours to decorate.  Did a practice one last month and it was all good.  Not all good today.  Tinkerbell’s face decided to stick inside the pan.  No idea why–maybe because this was important to me and it wasn’t practice.  Who knows?!?  So having to plan B the cake.  I’m still going to make sure she has a wonderful cake for her party, but at this rate, it’s not going to be home-made.  So, I’m off to search for a chocolate cake, cause she specifically said she wanted a chocolate cake.  Wish me luck.  I really need it today!!

UPDATE 2:  I have a cake.  Chocolate at that.  Perhaps the day is going better now.  ~sighs~  OK–back to work.
